I have had a camera in my hand since I was 10. I learned how to use my F-stops and Shutter Speeds and immediately began having fun with it. At 15, I got my first job as a photographer. I worked for my local newspaper. I was the photographer for the entertainment section for which I did many front page photos. I photographed all the plays, operas, and ballets. The next few years I began to do even more, working as a second shooter for weddings and an event photographer. I have never wanted to do anything else; my love has always been photography. I started college and applied to the Individualized Major program. I was accepted, and I declared my major Fashion Photography. This allowed me to study in New York City attending the Fashion Institute of Technology. I did an intensive photography program and then transferred my credits back to Indiana University to get my B.A. in 2000. While I was in New York, I had the opportunity to work for Vogue photographer Roxanne Lowit. Once I graduated, I got a job at Ralph Laurenâ€™s corporate offices in New York, but soon realized the corporate lifestyle was not for me. I lived in New York for 5 years working as a bartender and photography assistant before heading west to San Diego. Since I have been in San Diego, I have been blessed to be a part of creating an awesome business of which I can be proud. I opened Spotlight Studios in 2005 and had very humble beginnings. I began to invite other photographers to join the studio in 2008. With different artists, we can offer different styles and personalities. This was so exciting, a place where artists could join together and create beautiful and timeless images. My passion for photography runs deep, and I love to share it with my clients. I specialize in portraits, I love the endless possibilities pictures of people can offer. I found my love for weddings more recently. Today there are no rules; I can shoot a wedding with a journalistic feel or a fashion feel. I love that weddings are not just boring images, now we can document the day in a new exciting way, our way. My clients hire me for me; they like my personality and appreciate my style of photography. Giving people unforgettable images they will cherish for a lifetime is my goal. Julio Fonyat My name is Julio Fonyat, thank you very much for viewing my art. I came from a family of artists, with a father and a grandfather as renowned photographers / architects and an art collector mother. I remember thinking as a kid, as I would go thru my fatherâ€™s and grandfatherâ€™s work, that being a photographer was the only thing that would make sense for me. How could I consider being anything else? My mother passed on my Dadâ€™s cameras to me. Learning photography with his Leicas, Rolleiflexs, and Polaroids gave me the basics of the technical knowledge before entering the digital world. Even though I mostly work with digital, I still spend hours in the dark room developing personal and family work. I moved to San Diego about eight years ago to pursue my dream of being a professional photographer. Along with my vintage cameras, I brought the desire to do something different. I started college and developed a deep passion for sports and water photography. Along the years, I attended many workshops at the renowned Brooks Institute of Photography. With a unique approach to surf photography, I have had my work displayed in some of the most important magazines in the world in the field and had the chance to produce articles and magazine covers. My photography has taken me to places I could only dream of before. It has taught me to observe and learn from different cultures and appreciate the beauty of unique places. I have spent time in Mexico, Hawaii, China, Indonesia, and Brazil, always experiencing the cultures and learning the languages. In weddings, perfect moments are always around me. Different from nature and sports, where a perfect image depends on many factors, weddings always produce an immense number of moments to capture. Itâ€™s flattering for me to have a chance to share that moment with you and be the one to capture those lifetime memories.
